Harley-Davidson | A Father’s Legacy

I was fortunate enough to be making the journey to the 84th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with Thrashin Supply. With us, making the 1700 mile trip from Los Angeles to Sturgis was Dom Scamaldo. Although, he wasn’t riding a modern bike bike the rest of the group. Dom was making the trek to the Black Hills aboard his father’s custom built 1959 Pan-Shovel Chopper.

Dom’s dad alwayts dreamed of riding his bike across the United States, with Sturgis as an obvious stop. Unfortunately life got in the way and he never made the trip during his youth. Sadly Dom’s dad fell into a battle with poor health right before our trip and Dom had made up his mind. He was going to ride his dad’s bike to Sturgis. No matter how long it takes, how many parts break, and they did, Dom was determined to get his dad’s bike to South Dakota on it’s own two wheels.

After 6 grueling days on the road, We made it into Sturgis and Dom immediately sent a picture of the bike in front of that famous sign to his dad.

Some folks at Harley-Davidson were following our journey and asked if I could snap some photos of Dom and his dad’s bike riding in the Black hills to use for their Social Media. We cleaned up the bike and hit the road to capture these images. Dom’s smile says it all. Just a man, motivated by the love for his family, on two wheels. The way he was raised. Carrying that legacy every mile.
